Red Hook, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, was once a highly industrialized area. With the gentrification knocking on the door of this small neighborhood, some changes came along. But the charm of this wonderful place is still there. Since it’s a neighborhood on the rise, we at Brooklyn Movers New York decided to make a list of things to do in Red Hook. If you are a New Yorker or just a tourist in Brooklyn visit Red Hook and you won’t be disappointed.
Arrive in Red Hook in style
Use the NY Water Taxi that goes from Wall Street to Red Hook. The station is near the only IKEA in New York. For that reason, many New Yorkers come to Red Hook to shop for some furniture. That IKEA also has a small restaurant integrated so if you are in need of a coffee or something to eat it’s a nice place to grab a bite.
Enjoy yourself at Sunny’s
Sunny’s is a dive bar that stood the test of time and is open for over a hundred years in the neighborhood. During some of the recent hurricanes, it was damaged but the community rallied quickly to build it up again. If there is a place that our Red Hook movers will recommend you it will be this bar. It has low prices and shows the full spirit of the community.
Waterfront Museum and Showboat Barge
This little museum is all about the past of this beautiful neighborhood. It represents the time this part of the city was booming with ships. The hosts are amazing as they entertain you with music, weather, pirate shows, and many other exhibitions throughout the year. It’s a fantastic way to look at the past and be entertained at the same time.
Visit St. Louis Valentino, Jr. Park and Pier and enjoy the view from Red Hook
Once a part of town that served the shipping industry now has become a beautiful waterfront part of the neighborhood. Besides being a great place to make picnics and have a relaxing walk it also has a great view of the sunsets. It’s not strange that our local movers Brooklyn recommend going there to get a beautiful view of the Statue of Liberty. Visiting this part of the neighborhood will surely not be a waste of your time.
Galleries and art
Once an industrial part of town has transformed into a hub for artists and people who enjoy art. You will be able to see street artists and amazing graffiti. On the other hand, there are galleries like Kentler International Drawing Space. Kentler promotes local and up-and-coming artists so you never know when you can find a hidden gem.
As a part of Brooklyn that still is expanding Red Hook has a lot to offer. From an original way to arrive, by using the IKEA Ferry, to having beautiful views this little part of New York has much to offer. You won’t run out of things to do in Red Hook. Feel free to explore its bars and galleries and have fun getting to know the people and the community.
